Round One:Your Best Shot
London Drugs/Black Press invites amateur photographers to submit photographs for round one of the contest. Photographs from any genre will be accepted. Photographs are recommended to be less than 5MB, must be the property of the contestant and must have been taken within the last 12 months.
Images may include; sport, family,events, landscape, action, portrait or any kind of genre. Contestants may enter a maximum of five photographs.
Deadline for final entries is midnight, July 14th, 2013. Results will be released to finalists prior to July 21st 2013. Names of finalists will be published on this site no later than Wednesday 24th July 2013. This contest is not open to professional or licensed photographers. VIP airshow passes will be available for pick-up from your local community Black Press newspaper.
Contestants must be available to attend at least one full day of the Abbotsford International Airshow. August 9th-11th, 2013.
Round Two: The Next Generation -
Amateur Photographer of the Year
Round two contestants will be invited to join a team of photographers at this year's Abbotsford International Airshow. This year there will be a salute to the RCAF - celebrating their 70th anniversary.
Finalists will be notified by email and phone if selected for round two. As a finalist you will be representing your community newspaper and your city.
A Black Press representative will confirm the day(s) you will be attending the show, in order that we can arrange for appropriate refreshments etc.
All selected contestants/photographers will receive:
- All access pass to the Airshow for 3 days.
- VIP Access to the London Drugs/Black Press Photo Pit. (Preferred location for Airshow photography)
- Light refreshments will be served throughout the day
- Private tours on the 'hotside' of the show
- One carload pass for their entire family
- Onsite camping/RV options. To be confirmed where available.
Finalist photographers will be challenged with shooting:
- The Best in-air photograph ($1,000 grand prize courtesy of London Drugs)
- The Best ground/static scene photograph ($500 prize courtesy of London Drugs)
- The Best crowd scene photograph ($250 prize courtesy of London Drugs)
Finalists are required to submit photographs for all three categories at the Airshow. A maximum of ten photos per category are allowed.
Black Press will have staff at the event uploading images to a central site. We will be encouraging all photographers to use social media feeds, including facebook and twitter, where possible to promote the event.
Round Three: VOTING for The Next Generation -
Amateur Photographer of the Year commences
Following the Airshow August 9th-11th, voting for the People's Choice Photo Award will commence. The winning photograph, named the People's Choice Award, will be based on the number of votes received. Closing date August 31st 2013.
The Next Generation Amateur Photographer of the Year will be named after August 31st. An independent judging panel, made up of professionals, will review all photographs submitted during the show. Judges will determine the winners of the top three categories and the overall Amateur Photographer of the Year.
Prizes will be presented early September 2013. Date to be confirmed.
Once completed:
- Top three finalists selected will win the prizes as outlined above.
- One finalist will receive 'People's Choice Award' - Tickets to Cirque Musica, Abbotsford
- One voter will win tickets to Cirque Musica, Abbotsford
Official Rules:
Contest starts June 13th, 2013. Closing date July 14th @ midnight. Finalists will be announced prior to July 21st, 2013.

You must be 16 years of age or older at time of entry to be eligible for this contest.
Judges decision final and no correspondence will be entered into. No cash alternative.

Cirque Musica tickets provided to the October 2013 show at the AESC, Abbotsford.

Employees of Black Press, London Drugs and the Abbotsford International Airshow are not eligible to enter.
Must be B.C. resident and able to attend Abbotsford International Airshow.

Photographs may be used throughout Black Press multimedia platforms. Photographs will not be resold or passed to a third party, however, they are in the public domain and Black Press/London Drugs/Abbotsford International Airshow cannot be responsible for public usage.
All Photographs will be accepted for the 'Your Best Shot' portion of the contest, including photoshop touch-ups and other effects. Finalists will be provided with parameters of photo entries during the Airshow.

General Rules:
No purchase necessary. Five valid entries per contestant.
You must be 16 years of age or older at time of entry to be eligible for this contest. This contest is void where prohibited by law.
If a winner is unreachable after seven (7) days, or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be selected. If Black Press cannot find an eligible winner for the prize, that prize will not be awarded.
Only one registered account per user. If multiple accounts are detected for a single user, they will be disabled.
Black Press reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value.
Black Press reserves the right to restrict the local winners to only persons whose primary residence is within a 60 mile radius of the affiliate's' office.
Employees of Black Press, its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible.
Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the contest commissioners, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest.
Entrants further grant to Black Press the right to use and publish their proper name and state online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Contest.
Black Press reserves the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.

All results posted are unofficial until winners respond to e-mail notification.
This contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a contestant is using the contest for gambling purposes they will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
